The internship program launched in 2006 for the 11th grade as part of the career experience for our students. Internship is an one day per week experience for Juniors to participate in a career field that they are interested in. Internship goes beyond Work Study in that students do not necessarily spend most of the day working on basic activities, but instead get to sit in on higher level meetings, ask questions, learn specific job related skills, and work on a basic project that they create with their site supervisor. Often Internships involve rotating through different departments of a large company or working with different individuals on task specific skills. Each Thursday students arrive at their worksite instead of coming to the school building where they will spend the school day (at least six hours with one hour for lunch) learning about the business of their choice. A small part of the day may consist of copying, sorting, filing, or other basic work because students must learn also that most jobs do have some portion that is not as well liked; however, most of the day should be task oriented, observation, or skill practice. If your company is interested in having an ACCE scholar intern at your site, please fill out the online form and we will get back to you as soon as possible. If you have any questions about the program, please review the one page overview below or contact the Internship Coordinator, Amanda Ellison by email: aellison@accebaltimore.com.
