Of our two main areas of focus at our school, ACCE's career focus has really grown in the past year. The ACCE career focus is designed in three parts to help student's progress naturally through the learning process and prepare students with real work place readiness skills. Underclassmen (9th & 10th grade) are introduced to the world beyond high school slowly. Beginning with single day shadowing experiences at local businesses and continuing to a 21st century careers class. These students also work on interview skills, workplace readiness, and technology skills that will help prepare them for the world of work. Upperclassmen (11th & 12th grade) continue their career readiness learning experiences with long-term activities such as Internship and Work Study. The Internship is a weekly one day experience for Juniors out at job sites throughout the city that promotes healthy learning experiences relating to individual student's career interests. Seniors may also participate in an optional daily afternoon Internship experience or Work Study to continue their preparations for Career's beyond high school. Finally, all students will participate in a newly structured ACCE Career Day on the last school Thursday of every month. Activities will include seminars, career fairs, community experiences, skills workshops, and some college preparatory work also.
